Yesterday it was teased that Marvel would be making a huge announcement this morning on The View. It was speculated that it could be the official title release and date for Thor 3, as the news was touted as being 'explosive' and 'thundering'. Well, it was sort of on the right track. Marvel has revealed that a new female character will be taking over the Thor mantel in the comic books with a new series all her own.

How will this affect the movie franchise? That is yet to be known, but its possible that this new female Thor could get introduced in Thor 3, since the screenplay is just now being mapped out. Will a female Thor eventually take over Chris Hemsworth's role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? That's a very big possibility, as the actor is only contracted for 6 movies, which include the Thor trilogy and Marvel's The Avengers trilogy, both nearing their end.

With the comic book side of Marvel working closely with the theatrical at all times, a big screen female Thor certainly isn't out of the question. The question is: Who could play her?

Says Marvel editor Wil Moss,
 

"The inscription on Thor's hammer reads 'Whosoever holds this hammer, if HE be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.' Well it's time to update that inscription. The new Thor continues Marvel's proud tradition of strong female characters like Captain Marvel, Storm, Black Widow and more. And this new Thor isn't a temporary female substitute - she's now the one and only Thor, and she is worthy!"

Series writer Jason Aaron emphasizes,
 

"This is not She-Thor. This is not Lady Thor. This is not Thorita. This is THOR. This is the THOR of the Marvel Universe. But it's unlike any Thor we've ever seen before."

Thor is the latest in the ever-growing and long list of female-centric titles that continues to invite new readers into the Marvel Universe. This femaleThor is the 8th title to feature a lead female protagonist and aims to speak directly to an audience that long was not the target for Super Hero comic books in America: women and girls.
