Back in June, a report surfaced that Marvel Studios was considering both Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hardy to play Doctor Strange in their Phase Three adventure. Since no one has been confirmed to play the title role yet, MTV caught up with Benedict Cumberbatch at Comic-Con today to see if there was any truth to the reports.

Here's what the actor had to say below.
 

"As far as I'm aware, even if that was the case, it couldn't work out because I'm doing a little play called 'Hamlet' in a little town called London. So I don't think I could even if that was in the cards. It sounds like a fantastic project. It's a shame if I miss out, but who knows?"

When asked if he was actually engaged in discussions for the role, Benedict Cumberbatch wouldn't elaborate any further.
 

"I couldn't possibly comment."

Of course, it isn't surprising that Marvel would seek out Benedict Cumberbatch, who has been on a roll of late, turning in critically-acclaimed performances in Star Trek Into Darkness and 12 Years a Slave, not to mention his hit BBC series Sherlock.

So, with Benedict Cumberbatch seemingly out of the running, who will play Doctor Strange? Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige revealed earlier this week that they are close to finding the right actor, but it's unlikely that the announcement will be made at Comic-Con.
